Do I have to be flexible to be able to do yoga?
No, absolutely not. Yoga will most definitely help with flexibility, but it is not necessary beforehand. Come as you are and you will find that over time not only will your flexibility improve, but you will gain, strength, balance, coordination and a greater understanding of your body.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing that is not too loose or baggy. You will be barefoot during class, so there is no need for any special footwear. Some classes are heated, so wear something that you are comfortable sweating in.
Do I need any special gear?
We have mats that you are welcome to use, but we highly recommend that you bring your own. It is helpful to have a towel and bottle of water as well. Other than that, just bring yourself!
Should I eat beforehand?
You will practice twists, folds and side body stretches during most yoga classes. Because of these different movements, we recommend that you eat a meal no sooner than 2-3 hours before class. If you need a snack before class, go for something light like juice, nuts, fruit or a small energy bar. A light snack will set you up for a much more comfortable experience.
How often should I participate in yoga?
At This Land Yoga, we believe that yoga is one part of a balanced and healthy life. In order to maintain flexibility and strength, we recommend that you participate in 2-3 yoga classes per week. Yoga is an incredible tool and we believe that you will quickly notice the benefits of practicing. Yoga helps prevent injuries in other sports, it can support weight loss and more mindful eating, it can be a vehicle to lowering stress and anxiety and it can be useful in improving focus. Try not to set unrealistic expectations or goals, just do what you can when you can.
